What is a Will?
A Will is a document, that anyone can make, which gives instructions on how they want their wealth distributed upon their death. Who can make a Will? Anyone over the age of 18 and sound mind. Why make a Will? Its the only real way you can decide, in advance, who gets your wealth. What happens if I don't make a Will? The government has one for you. Its called the Laws of Intestacy. These laws dictate who, what and how much of your wealth someone not of your choice will get. Don't I need a solicitor? No. The law states that anyone can make a Will. High street solicitors are generalists and predominantly deal with property sales and purchase. If a solicitor does offer a Will writing service then they may seek to be nominated within the Will to handle post death procedures. They will then be free to charge fees to sort out the estate post death. These days they don't even offer Will writing service as their liability insurance becomes hugely expensive. How can we help?
